Driving on over- or under-inflated tires shortens their lifespan and gives you worse performance. Check and adjust your tire pressure with these easy steps, then come in for Alfa Romeo tire service at Helfman Alfa Romeo if you have continued problems.

Checking Tire Pressure

To check your tire pressure, remove the small cap over the air valve, making sure to put it somewhere where it won’t get lost. Press the tire gauge against the valve, which may cause a hiss of air. Compare the tire pressure against what’s listed in your owner’s manual or on the sticker inside the driver’s door to find out what adjustments you need to make.

Pressurizing Tires

You will need an air compressor to inflate your tires, so, if you don’t have one at home, you may need to drive over to your local gas station. Remove the valve caps and press the compressor nozzle onto the valve stem—depending on the compressor, you may also need to pull a lever. Check the air pressure again and, if it’s in the right range, move on to the next tire until you’ve inflated all four.

Depressurizing Tires

Tires can also be overinflated, especially when the summer sun warms up and expands the air inside. To let air out of tires, use the small dot or bead on the back of the tire pressure gauge. Press it into the valve stem to let air out, then check the pressure again to see if you’re within the range.
